Welcome aboard!
Thank you for joining the Human Resource Association
of New Brunswick. We are happy to have you as one of our newest
members. We know you probably have some questions - and are anxious
to attend a meeting - so below is some information that you may
find useful.
The Human Resources Association of New Brunswick was
established in October 1996 to meet the needs of HR professionals
in our province for their growth and recognition. Our purpose is
to promote and encourage members to develop and maintain a professional
standard of knowledge and proficiency in our occupational field.
The association's mandate includes attaining recognition
as a resource on employment issues, as well as promoting and gaining
acceptance of the Human Resources field for the distinct body of
knowledge it provides in business.
As a member, you'll be expected to conduct yourself
according to our profession's Code of Ethics.
Preamble:
As HR practitioners in the following categories –
- Certified Human Resources Professionals,
- CHRP Candidates, or
- CHRP Exam Registrants,
we commit to abide by all requirements of the Code
of Ethics of the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations
(CCHRA), as listed in this document. (Where provincial codes are
legislated, those will prevail.)

and provide services in an honest and diligent manner.

knowledge, experience and skill.
When providing services outside one’s level of competence,

not to compromise professional responsibility.

to the field of Human Resources Management, as well as all civil
and criminal laws, regulations and statutes that apply in one’s
jurisdiction.
Not knowingly or otherwise engage in or condone any activity or
attempt to circumvent the clear intention of the law.

in society as a whole.

influence or might be perceived to influence personal actions or
judgments.
Professional Growth and Support of Other Professionals
Maintain personal and professional growth in Human Resources Management
by engaging in activities that enhance the credibility and value
of the profession.
Enforcement
The Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations works collaboratively
with its Member Associations to develop and enforce high standards
of ethical practice among all its members.
There are many benefits to joining the HRANB. Besides
getting discounted rates at events, you'll also be able to network
with HR professionals throughout New Brunswick at our fun and educational
meetings and conferences,
keep up with the latest HR
developments and trends, and learn about HR
job opportunities throughout Atlantic Canada.
In addition, in order to obtain your Certified
Human Resources Professional designation, you must be a member
of the HRANB.
Each of our five Chapters is required to have at least
three meetings each year. However, three of our chapters (Fredericton,
Moncton, and Saint John) usually have monthly meetings, September
through June.
At these meetings, you will get a chance to network
with other HR professionals, and learn more about topics of interest
to the HR community. Previous meeting topics have included:
- Coaching Employees to Success
- Not So Basic Instincts: Surprising Sources of
Employers' Liability Under the Human Rights Act
- Compensation and Pension Trends: Income Before,
During and After Employment
- Lighten Your Workload With Laughter
- The Respectful Workplace: Diagnosis, Assessment
and Treatment
- Spirituality Within The Workplace
You can keep up to date on what's happening by bookmarking
our events page and then
checking it out every now and then. Members are also regularly emailed
information about what's happening in their Chapters; however, sometimes
another Chapter is holding an event that you would like to attend
or your email message may have bounced for one reason or another.
That's why you want to bookmark our events page so that it is easy
for you to know what's going on all over New Brunswick.
Generally twice a year (in Fall and Spring), Professional
Development Conferences are offered to our members. These rotate
between New Brunswick's three major centers - Fredericton, Moncton,
and Saint John.
Members are offered a greatly reduced price for both
Professional Days and monthly meeting. Your membership is paid for
by the cost savings of attending just a few events!
The conferences are usually a one-day event; however,
in the past we have also offered one and a half day and two day
events. Sometimes there will be various events to choose from during
the conference, other conferences will have a brief overview of
a number of topics, other times there will be one speaker going
in-depth into a subject.
We require member input to make these conferences
a success. We need to know what YOU want to learn, what topics you
feel you need to know more about. Don't be silent,
let us know what you want. And, please offer to lend a hand
in organizing the next event.
One of the benefits of membership is learning about
job opportunities
within the Human Resources field. Approximately twice a month -
but sometimes more and sometimes less - we are approached by companies
and recruitment agencies and asked to advertise
job postings. In the past, some of the job postings we received
were for both entry-level and senior HR positions in companies including
Heritage Salmon, Co-Op Atlantic, Irving Oil Limited, LearnStream,
and UPS.
In addition, we've had people advertise HR courses
and requests for proposals.
However, most of these job postings aren't on our
webpage. Some are. But most aren't. Usually, these postings are
emailed to our membership instead of posted on the website.
This means that as a member you have access to information
that non-members aren't usually aware of. If you are looking for
a new position - or know someone who is - then you have an advantage
over a non-member.
Most years we publish a membership directory with
all the members listed in it - both alphabetically and by organization.
This makes it easy for members to network with each other or to
find someone when they have a question they don't know the answer
to.
However, members move and new members join. As a result,
the annual membership directory isn't always up to date. Members
can search for other members using the search feature in our membership
section.
We are always on the lookout for interesting topics,
as well as volunteers to write an article for our new article part
of the members only section. If you would like to write an article,
let Solange
know about it.
We all know that people demonstrating leadership skills
stand out within an organization. However, sometimes people don't
actively seek out leadership roles within the workplace because
they are worried about what might happen if they make a mistake.
The HRANB is a great place to develop those leadership skills. You
gain valuable leadership experience and obtain visibility and recognition
when you volunteer to help organize an event or work on a committee.
And if you do a great job (of course you will), then you can let
your boss know.
Perhaps you are interested in communications. Then
helping out with our articles section would be right up your alley.
Or you may have experience in research. Then you could
help develop and analyze membership surveys.
You may be interested in learning or have talents
organizing and managing projects. Then we could use you to help
us plan our monthly meetings, and our conferences.
Don't be shy. Email
us and let us know what your skills and interests are.
If you have questions about dues, your contact info,
and other administrative questions, you can email Solange at
solange@hranb.org
- or phone her at (506) 855.4466.
