"I
received my CHRP designation on February 27, 2003 and celebrated
this with my HR team. Personally, it gave me a sense of accomplishment
and pride to know that I am a recognized Certified Human Resources
Professional. This has opened opportunities in terms of succession
planning within my organization, as well as a level of respect from
the Management Team."

The CHRP must be recertified every three years. Recertification
can be obtained through one of two options.
Professional Development Activities
The CHRP holder must complete and submit:
Examination
The CHRP holder must write and pass the CHRP National Professional
Practice Assessment. The passing score on this examination is 70%
or higher.
Either requirement must be initiated within
six months before the expiry of the 3-year CHRP designation period.
If the CHRP holder's three years are up, they can no longer
use the CHRP designation and must write the Knowledge and National
Professional Practice Assessments to re-obtain their CHRP.
Effective in 2005 the annual invoice from
the Association will contain the date of the expiry of the CHRP
designation. This will be the only notification that the
CHRP holders will receive with respect to their designation. At
the time of receipt, the CHRP holder should decide on and initiate
appropriate action on the recertification option they wish to follow.
This option requires the recertifying CHRP holder
to be a member in good standing of HRANB and to document the professional
development activities they have engaged in during the preceding
three year period. This requirement is not onerous, but ensures
that the CHRP holder remains active and current in the profession.
Those applying for recertification must complete the
National
Recertification Guide.
CHRP holders applying for recertification must complete
and submit the Recertification Guide, along with a current
copy of their resume.
National
Recertification Guide
CHRP holders whose activities meet the requirements
and who sign the CHRP Code of Ethics will be notified by HRANB that
they have successfully recertified. HRANB will notify the Professional
Standards Office of the CCHRA, who will update the CHRP holder's
status in the National CHRP Registry.
CHRP holders who activities do not meet the requirements
will be informed by HRANB that their recertification application
has been denied. At that time they will be informed of their right
to appeal this decision to the President of the HRANB. Their correspondence
must provide the reason and any new relevant information to support
their request to overturn the original decision. If the appeal is
unsuccessful, they will have their CHRP revoked and be asked to
return their CHRP Certificate to HRANB. To regain their CHRP, they
must complete the certification process from the beginning by successfully
writing both the Knowledge and outcomes assessments.
This option requires the recertifying CHRP holder
to write the National Professional Practice Assessment. The preparation
and conditions for this assessment are similar to that described
on the website under National Professional Practice Assessment.
Those choosing this option must apply to write at least 90 days
prior to the scheduled date of assessment and are required to pay
the related examination fee.
CHRP holders who successfully complete the National
Professional Practice Assessment and sign the CHRP Code of Ethics
will be notified of their status by HRANB. These CHRP holders can
again use their CHRP designation for an additional three year period.
CHRP holders who are not successful will be advised
by HRANB of what options they have available to them at that point.
Typically there are two choices. The CHRP holder must either:
- Retake the NPPA and pay the required fee; or
- Fulfill the requirement needed to earn 100
points through completion of one of the two available logs.
